When I launched Talking Tech with Creatives podcast, I wanted to have real conversations with people building extraordinary lives at the intersection of technology, creativity, and business.

There was no better way to begin than with Rob Moore—a man who has turned his journey from struggling artist to multi-millionaire entrepreneur into a blueprint for resilience and reinvention.

In this very first episode of the podcast, Rob opens up about the moment that changed his life: his father’s nervous breakdown in December 2005. At the time, Rob was £50,000 in debt and filled with self-loathing. That crisis became his turning point.

“There was this week where I just had intense self-loathing… I thought, I’ve got to do something with my life because I felt like a bit of a loser.”

From that low point, Rob discovered property investing—almost by accident—and within 12 months had cleared his debt, earned nearly £100K, and started building what would become Progressive Property, the UK’s largest property training company.

But this episode isn’t just about real estate.

 Key Themes We Covered

 The Power of Desperation

Rob speaks candidly about how trauma and hardship can become powerful fuel. He even references how certain organisations, like the CIA, have historically sought out individuals with adversity in their background—for their drive and adaptability.

“Motivation, hunger, desire… A little bit of trauma can help.”

Multi-Hyphenate Success

With 18 bestselling books, multiple businesses, a top-ranked entrepreneur podcast, and a personal brand that spans speaking, mentoring, and investing, Rob identifies as a “multi-hyphenate.” Rather than fight against his need for variety, he built systems that allow him to focus within a diversified ecosystem.

“I have a high variety need and a low boredom threshold.”

Recurring Income and the Creator Economy

One of Rob’s biggest takeaways? Leverage. He’s passionate about building passive income streams that work for you—even while you sleep. Whether through rental properties, social media sponsorships, or book royalties, he emphasises the importance of investing in income-generating assets.“If you don’t make money while you sleep, you’ll work until you die.” — Warren Buffett (quoted by Rob)

He also dives into the creator economy and why digital platforms are democratising wealth and opportunity. From NFTs to online courses to social media monetisation, creatives now have more tools than ever to build and scale income.

Practical Takeaways
  • Reskill for the future—especially in AI, content, and high-value digital skills.

  • Start with what you have—Rob began by leveraging his partner’s money and gradually built a scalable system.

  • Outsource and delegate—focus only on tasks that directly generate value.

  • Don’t wait to be perfect—start now, get better later.
